Jan 15 - Jan 20

Waiting for the PATH after a night of overpriced beer, underwhelming food, and great company.

My favorite subject. I predict more photos of Rudy than Colin & I combined by the end of the year.

Pizza at Nellie's with Papa Fink and Aunt Naomi. Naomi came down from Vermont for a week's visit, her first in a good many years. We're debating going up to visit her over Valentine's Day Weekend, which in Vershire is also the weekend of this year's Snowshoe-a-thon. It would be awesome, but on the other hand... Vermont in February.

Rudy and I huddled together for warmth. My fur-covered portable personal heating system.

Colin teaching Aunt Naomi how to text. Welcome to the twenty-first century, Omi!

I'm taking a lot of morning photos. By the time I get home from work, it's dark out. It's hard to take photos at night, because I hate using a flash and avoid it as much as possible. But I don't mind the mornings, especially when the sun hits the bathroom window after my shower.

Jan 09 - Jan 14

A deceptively simple Asian chicken recipe. Toss some peanut butter, soy sauce, honey, lime juice, and garlic in a ziploc bag with some raw chicken. Marinate for a few hours, then saute until the chicken is cooked through. Top with sesame seeds if you're feeling fancy.

My desk at work. The coffee mug is from a project I worked on at Syngenta during my first few weeks. The letters fade when a hot liquid is inside. It's dorky, but I love it.

The snow coming down.

By the morning, we had seven inches. Not enough to for a snow day, sadly; up here, if the trains are running, you go to work.

The view from the train in the morning. My ride takes between 15 and 20 minutes, which is perfect. Just long enough to read a magazine or catch up on a book.

Another amazing sunrise. I know they always look better in real life, but I couldn't help trying to capture it. The photo is close, but was 10x better in person.

Jan 05 - Jan 08

New year, new moleskine! This year I went for the new X-Small Daily Planner. It's tiny but thick, and I love it.  Just enough space to jot down a memo or two a day, plus a few lines of reflection. And the Sharpie pen works almost perfectly - there's some bleed through, but nothing too bad, and the tip is nice and fine.

Double yolks! They eventually ended up as scrambled eggs for my dinner.

The tunnel under Bryant Park, on our way home from LIC.

Needless to say, Rudy got a bit spoiled at Papa Fink's house over the holidays. As in, two-extra-pounds-spoiled. It's okay, we all packed on a few over vacation, but now Rudy is back in the real world, where there are designated meal times rather than a free-feeding-frenzy. Poor Rudy.

Jan 02 - Jan 04

Colin and I spent December 26th - January 3rd on a grand tour of the South, with stops in Maryland, Caldwell, Cary, Greensboro, Charlotte, Columbia, and D.C., visiting family and friends. January 2nd was the second-to-last leg of our 1,500 mile journey. We woke up in Charlotte and were headed to Bethesda. About 2:30 in the afternoon, just across the Virginia state line, we made a pit stop for barbecue. Colin was craving it, and we couldn't leave the south without eating any pork products. After asking Karen (our Christmas gift to each other this year: a GPS) for directions to "BBQ," we ended up in South Hill, Va., and Wilson Brothers. Just what we needed for lunch, plus another 1 lb container to take home.

January 3, we picked up Rudy from Colin's dad's and finally got to sleep in our own bed, for the first time in nine days. Rudy always travels in his case, but when we stopped at Lowes on our way home, and I let Rudy stretch his legs in the parked car while Colin ran in to grab a heater.

January 4: I woke up bright and early (for me) to get ready for my first (full) day of my new job. Who knew the view from my kitchen window could be so pretty before 8 am?

Project 365 Twenty-Eleven.

I originally created this blog as a place to post photos from around Hoboken and of my new life as a city girl. I ran out of steam after a week or so. So I decided to jump on the Project 365 bandwagon and take a photo a day for every day in 2011. And in order to stick with this resolution, I needed to be accountable. If no one knew what I was up to, no one would know if I quit.

Enter Kevin.

Poor Kevin. He had a little too much fun on New Year's Eve, and was not happy about being faced with a pint of beer the next day (even at 6 pm). Kevin also likes to take pictures, so we decided to be photo-a-day buddies. As everyone knows, it's easier to go to the gym if you have a gym buddy. We'll remind each other to take our pictures each day, as well as nagging each other to actually do something with the pictures (for me, posting them here). My goal is to post the photos at least twice a month.

Time to get to it!
